FREE WEBINAR - Content Strategy for Adaptive Content
[Posted: May 07 2013]

Presented by Ann Rockley - The Rockley Group

Date: 21 May
Time: 15:00 UK time (10:00 EDT / 16:00 CEST)

About Ann

Webinar Presenter

Come and hear Ann in our latest Congility webinar.

Adaptive content automatically adjusts to different environments and device capabilities to deliver the best possible customer experience, filtering and layering content for greater or lesser depth of detail. Adaptive content can be displayed in any desired order, respond to specific customer interactions, change based on location, and integrate content from other sources.

Many organizations are focusing on the issues of screen size using responsive design. However, responsive web design only resizes a website; it does nothing to provide the right content in the right context for customers. The only way to create content that meets changing customer needs is to create adaptive content.

This session will:
  • Provide an understanding of adaptive content
  • Explain the differences between responsive design and adaptive content
  • Provide an understanding of how to build a content strategy to support adaptive content

All registrants will be entered into a draw to win a copy of Ann Rockley's best selling book “Managing Enterprise Content: A Unified Content Strategy”, New Riders Publishing ISBN 0-7357-1306-5.

FREE WEBINAR - How do you manage content when it must be delivered into several, parallel streams?
[Posted: May 01 2013]

Presented by Adrian Warman - Information Architect, IBM

Date: 14 May
Time: 15:00 UK time (10:00 EDT / 16:00 CEST)

About Adrian

Webinar Presenter
more »

Congility is often between two worlds, some see it as technical, some as not technical enough. The next two webinars will address both. In this session, IBM expert Adrian Warman will take us deep on management processes and technologies that align content versioning allowing similar efficiencies. Next week - Ann Rockley will take a more business-oriented approach to content looking at the alignment of content practice with market pressures. Choose one or both and let us know what you think.

How do you manage content when it must be delivered into several, parallel streams?

There might be big differences between the platforms, or the supported features.

How do you make sure the right content is included – or excluded – for the right set of documentation?

In this webinar, we will look at the challenges of working with parallel streams of content, and talk about how to work reliably and consistently in such an environment. We will look at how others have tackled, and solved, similar problems, and see how their solution might be adapted to help us.

In doing so, we'll see how repurposing a development technology increases our credibility with software developers, and even promises to let us work just as efficiently on the beach, or 30,000 feet in the air!

FREE WEBINAR - Understanding Content for Findability and Re-use
[Posted: Mar 26 2012]

Presented by Judi Vernau - Director of Information Architecture Consultancy, Metataxis

About Judi

Webinar Presenter
more »

Come and hear Judi in our latest congility webinar.

Publishers have been exploring ways to exploit their content in electronic format for over two decades. Organizations whose activity is not primarily publishing (the so-called ‘accidental publishers’) are also increasingly looking at how to get their information to their user groups more effectively. With so many people therefore involved in the act of publishing fact-based content, there seems to be a surprising lack of understanding about how to model information, and an unwillingness to take on new methods of content creation, even when the business case is clear.

In this session Judi Vernau will talk about how to structure and classify your content so that it can be easily retrieved, combined and re-used in order to provide a better experience for current customers, and to exploit new opportunities for content development.

Session Overview

About Noz

“Social” isn’t limited to WIKIs, Forums, Facebook, and Twitter.

More and more organisations are looking at how community content can complement (and in some cases replace) their formal product content. Also, many are noticing how much overlap there is with social content platforms and their own intranets, internal business collaboration and knowledge sharing platforms.

For most, putting documentation fully in the hands of the users – even internal subject matter experts – isn’t an option, 1or is simply not desirable. Also, creating yet another silo of social content isn’t helpful for users trying to find answers.

So, how can community and formally created content play nicely together?

On this session see best practice concepts and case study examples demonstrating:

  • The pitfalls of poorly implemented social functions
  • How the DITA platform can form the core of a socially-enabled documentation platform
  • The key social features that organisations are implementing – and the back-end processes required to prevent chaos
  • How internal SME and external customer communities can be leveraged for maximum benefit to both
  • The impact on: editorial process, metrics and measurement, version management, content models, workflow, and metadata strategies

Can DITA work outside Tech Pubs?

Are our business documents obsolete? Many business thinkers say that the document, as we know it, has out-lived its usefulness. A new type of intelligent document is needed to support automated business processes, enable dynamic multi-channel publishing, and make the most of important intellectual property. Most people understand that XML is a key to creating this type of intelligent document infrastructure, but very few organizations have been able to come up with an enterprise approach to XML authoring that meets the needs of both the end-user and the enterprise.

Few standards have gained adoption as rapidly as DITA has in the technical publications market. The reason is simple: DITA works! Well, this success has caught the attention of other departments outside of technical publications, who are wondering if DITA can answer their needs for a enterprise model for business documents.

DITA is an ideal candidate to unify enterprise business content, since DITA is an open standard designed to be specialized for the needs of individual departments. What’s more, an OASIS subcommittee has been established to make recommendations that optimize DITAs value for Enterprise Business Documents.

Date:  25 March 2009
Time:  15:00 GMT
Duration: 60 minutes
Cost: Free

In this complimentary Webinar you will learn:

  • The benefits of intelligent business documents
  • The reasons why DITA is gaining so much attention in this area
  • Practical applications of user-friendly authoring of business documents with DITA.

IBM Microelectronics Innovates with a DITA-based Information Strategy to Achieve Five Times ROI
[Posted: May 10 2011]

A Dynamic Publishing Solution Built on Quark XML Author and IBM FileNet Content Manager Improves Collaboration and Accelerates Time-to-Market.

Enormous stakes are on the line in high-tech manufacturing. Inefficiencies in the sharing and delivery of technical information can delay product releases, jeopardise customer and partner satisfaction, and lead to millions in losses — for both manufacturers and their partners. In many cases, inefficiencies in the creation and management of information are caused by outdated software that requires technical experts to undergo manual, labour- intensive, and error-prone authoring processes.

“We expect to see significant cost savings as a result of implementing this solution.” — Chris Schnabel, Senior Engineering Manager, Semiconductor Research and Development Center for IBM Microelectronics

Congility Speaker Insights on the Definition of “Content Agility”, and More
[Posted: Mar 29 2011]

What better way to understand a concept or a conference than to hear it from the speakers themselves?

To give you better insight into the state of the content market, this year's event, and the Congility concept, we asked our speakers four simple questions about Content Agility and their Congility presentations.

Here we've got some select examples, but you can also click on the individual speakers for their detailed pages - including answers - or see all the answers grouped by question:

Highlights

Here's the briefest extract of some our favourite answers:

  • "Content agility means being able to quickly respond to customer requirements and make sure they experience delight, rather than pain when they need to find information. It also means giving customers the information they need before they consciously start looking for it - for example, investing more in documentation that is embedded alongside a product. I am looking forward to Congility 2011 as a great way to meet like-minded people in the information arena, and to find out about techniques and methods that I can take home with me."
    - IBM's Sophie McMonagle
  • "'Agile content' suggests an evolution: from 'documentation' -- monolithic, static, self-contained, passive structural descriptions of product as artifact -- towards information repositories -- multi-faceted, dynamic, connected, proactive and practical facilitators of product as solution."
    - NetApp's Mark Forry
  • "If a company wants to manage their brand, they need to manage their customer communications and content in a streamlined way, allowing the right processes, right roles and enough time and training to deliver consistent, high-quality content... Only this way you can implement a quality assessment and quality control process to constantly improve your content (maintenance and governance)."
    - eBay's Nikki Tiedke
  • "Not only has content to be succinct and relevant to the customer, but it has to be structured in such a manner that it can be reused at a sub-component level. Agility now means that all the best practice of the last years has to be carried over into a real-time environment, where authored content can be delivered globally in the near instant."
    - Symantec's Fred Hollowood
  • "These days people are flooded with information. Providing our users with the information they need, when they need it, should be the aim of every documentation specialist. More than ever, we need concise, clear information that supports our users' daily work."
    - AGFA Healthcare's Eva Lemaire

Call for Speakers – Special Selection
[Posted: Mar 15 2011]

Congility has a select few spots left on the agenda, for 25-26 May 2011 which we are looking to fill with a specific class and type of presentation.

Submit now »

We are looking for talks that fit closely to this year’s theme:

"Content Integration: Leveraging Content Standards to Improve Customer Experience"

Presentations that cross departmental silos – technical documentation, support, marketing, engineering, other – using DITA, and implementations with subject matter experts or non-technical authors are especially welcome.

We are looking for stories that explain the journey and the people and process issues relating to getting a solution functional. Next generation implementations where systems installed 3 or more years ago have been built upon for increased benefit are also interesting.

Speakers receive free entry to the two-day conference.

Date and Venue:

25-26 May 2011. Arora Hotel, Gatwick, UK (Workshops on the 24th)

Congility 2011 is going to address questions like:

  • How can we build a Content Strategy that is based on solid business strategy?
  • How can we make content agile and flexible enough to be leveraged across departments, websites, documents, projects and initiatives to help customers or would-be customers achieve their goals?
  • What are the steps required to optimise delivery of user-oriented, tailored information?
  • How can we share content standards across teams with different goals, budgets and agendas?
  • If content is a strategic business asset, then what is the ROI of optimising it?

Presentations should be educational, conceptual or "thought-leading" oriented presentations, i.e., not a commercial sales pitch.

Andrew Bredenkamp Joins Congility 2011 Speaker Line-Up
[Posted: Mar 02 2011]

Post by Noz Urbina - reproduced from his blog

I've just been chatting with Andrew Bredenkamp (CEO, acrolinx) about Congility 2011 and his talk submission.

Of course all the speaker interviews are interesting, but the session with Andrew was particularly so because of how deeply he 'gets' where Congility is trying to go.

If you're going to:

  • reuse
  • sell
  • be found
  • make content consumable and understanable on the first read
  • localise/translate
  • leverage the crowd and (UGC) user generated content

online or offline, then content consistency and the ability to mine large data sets for key patterns is vital.  So is attacking the issue across the customer life cycle, and therefore, across the content life cycle.

The content industry is moving so fast that those who can understand where it is are hard to come by.  Those that can articulate a clear and well supported vision of where it's going are even rarer.  As such, I'm incredibly pleased to have Andrew and so many other top-quality speakers submit, and look forward to having him engage and interact with the Congility audience.

Andrew's session details will be posted on the Speakers page soon!

The Strategy in Content Management - CSA UK
[Posted: Feb 24 2011]

This is an invite to Content Agility 2013 to European Content Strategists.

The article is by Lisa Moore and Claire O'Brien of the Content Strategy Association, UK

In many ways, content strategy is like cooking. A content strategist can come up with a brilliant, exciting idea for a new dish. But if he or she doesn’t know who’s going to eat it, lacks the right equipment or doesn't understand how the oven works, that dish probably won't be a grand success.

As audiences demand ever greater access to content on demand, content strategists have become as involved with the change management required to bring together content owners from across an organisational structure, as with content structures themselves.

This is a fascinating challenge for us. As well as understanding how to work with multi-author processes, we need to get to grips with the concept of managing the multiple facets of an organisation. We need to do this if our creative ideas and strategic deliverables are to come to life and if we are truly going to advance our discipline. Toward that end, we must understand the possibilities – and the limitations – of today's content management and enterprise content delivery systems and methodologies.

As a group, the UK Content Strategy Association is focused on exploring all facets of the content strategy practice so we can learn and grow a collective understanding of our reach. By working with Congility (formerly known as X-Pubs), we hope to give UK content strategists the opportunity to be part of – and benefit from – a conference dedicated to helping enterprises develop more efficient, strategic approaches to delivering and managing organisational content.

CSAUK will be working with Congility to help deliver the content strategy stream of the conference. We hope that presentations and case studies from members of our group will offer some fresh perspectives on enterprise content management by addressing issues of change management, best practice, governance, syndication, localisation and more.

There’s plenty for members to learn as well: single source publishing, XML, DITA, CCMS (Component Content Management Systems) and, critically, what our clients need us to know and understand about their product content. The conference will focus on real-life content challenges, the kind that we as content strategists can contribute our knowledge and experience in solving.

We often talk about content strategy being a blend of art and science, since it embraces a wide network of systems, people and skill disciplines. As content strategy evolves and begins to deliver the promise of service design, we will need to operate within that sweet spot of art and science to deliver the effective, usable strategies that ensure audiences get the content they want, when, where and how they want it.

We hope you'll join us at Congility on 24 – 26 May 2011, either as a speaker or an attendee. Just watch out for those acronyms!

Read more about the Content Strategy-specific sessions (more to be posted soon) or submit a talk yourself!

CSA members can get discounted on entry to the event.

Submission guidelines:

Improving delivery has wide implications for an organisation. Many still believe they can keep to their departmental boundaries when thinking about content, yet still provide the best customer experience. Is this possible, when audiences touch content through so many direct and indirect channels? For example, difficult to use information that wastes support staff’s time hinders their ability to provide quality service - but do we connect the dots between content and customer when they cross departmental boundaries?

So many organisations today still create, manage and deliver content in silos: training, services and support, marketing and technical documentation have their own organisational, structural, writing guidelines and even terminology. It is up to the content consumer – be they internal customer or external client - to navigate a forest of information for their answer.

If you’ve got a story related to any of the above - Congility 2011 wants to hear it!

Presentations should be educational, conceptual or "thought-leading" oriented presentations, i.e., not a commercial sales pitch.
